Most color blind people suffer from this type of color blindness. The most common form: red/green color blindness In extremely rare cases, some color blind people are unable to see any color at all (achromatopsia). Most color blind people are able to see things as clearly as other people but they are unable to fully distinguish red, green or blue light. There are different levels of severity of color blindnessĪlmost half of all color blind people are unaware of their condition, while 60% of sufferers experience many problems in everyday life. Most color vision problems are inherited and are present at birth, although some people become color blind as a result of diseases such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis, or they develop the condition over time as they age. This condition results from an absence of color-sensitive pigment in the cone cells of the retina, the nerve layer at the back of the eye. Affecting approximately 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women, color blindness is the inability to distinguish the differences between certain colors.
